Jay Zelman is a seasoned Operator with over 20 years of experience in Healthcare and the Long-Term Care industry including as Licensed Administrator and multi-facility Regional Director. Jay graduated in 1991 with a Masters degree from Fordham University.
Louis Herzberg is proud to serve Schervier Rehabilitation & Nursing Center as its Administrator. Prior to joining the Schervier family, Louis for the past 2 years has been the administrator at a 5 star rated facility in New York City. Growing up as a child of 2 educators and community leaders, he learned from a young age that the greatest job you can have is one in which the primary focus is in helping others. Louis is humbled to be given the opportunity to make a real difference in his resident’s lives each and every day. Louis’s passion is in team building & creating a warm environment which he believes ultimately results in excellent care and customer service.
Josef Simpser has been working in the healthcare field for over 10 years in hospitals, pre-hospital care, and long-term care facilities. He holds an MBA in Healthcare Administration from West Texas A&M University and is a member of many leadership, healthcare, and executive associations and societies. He aims to keep Schervier at the forefront of long-term care along with being the pinnacle of quality care.
Dr. John D'Ambrosio attended the University of Rome School of Medicine before completing his Internal Medicine residency at the Bronx VA Medical Center. He continued on to a Gastroenterology fellowship at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center. Dr. D'Ambrosio is a faculty member in good standing at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He is also a privileged attending at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Yonkers, NY. He has been the Medical Director for Schervier Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for over 10 years and hopes to continue providing residents and families the highest level of care and oversight possible.
Regina Stokes, a dedicated and patient-focused Registered Nurse with 20 years experience in the Skilled Nursing Facility setting, joined the Schervier team in August of 2017. Beginning as a Licensed Practical nurse, Regina worked her way through the ranks with proven strengths in Customer Service, Performance Improvement, Staff development, Long-term care and Short-term Rehab patient care. Regina is also a member of the American Nurses Association and Chi Eta Phi Sorority. Quality Care for all is a driving principle in all she does.
Santhamma Varghese, Assistant Director of Nursing, has been a nurse for 33 years, 25 of which she has worked at Schervier Nursing Care Center. Her aim for the nursing department is to deliver exceptional quality care to its residents through interdisciplinary care. With over 30 years of experience in healthcare, Santhamma combines her excellent interpersonal skills with her genuine desire to help others, to create a warm welcoming environment conducive to healing.
In 1989, Mary Ann Sero, one year after graduating as a nurse from Notre Dame University in the Philippines, arrived in the United States and started her first and present job at Schervier Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. For the last 15 years, she has been our MDS Coordinator, a job which she loves very much and where she has the opportunity to help patients/clients and their families work through what can be a very difficult health journey. She also loves working in Riverdale which overlooks the Hudson River.
David Leyden has been an Occupational Therapist since 2001. He worked as a staff OT at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY for 7 years before joining the Visiting Nurse Service of NY as a staff OT, COTA coordinator, Rehab Team Leader, and most recently, as the Manhattan Manager for Scheduling and Assignments. He has a passion for providing the best treatment and care for all residents and strives for his staff to treat each and every resident individually with the care, compassion, and respect needed for their ultimate success in rehab services. David resides in Ramsey, NJ with his wife, Jill, and his 9-month-old son, Noah.
Sharon Balinsky has lived in the Riverdale community for over 25 years and has worked in the field of Health Care for 35 years; nursing home admissions for almost 25 years! Sharon prides herself on her knowledge of the field as well as her long-standing relationships with hospitals and the community at large. Sharon has a BA degree from the City University of NY.
Krystal Serrano has been working in the healthcare field for over 15 years, with her dedication to people services and building bridges to community relationships, she is the ideal addition to the vision of Schervier Rehabilitation and Nursing Center services expansion. Krystal holds an MBA in Marketing and Communication, with that vigor she brings her abilities to lead our Marketing and Community growth.
Franca Martino-Starvaggi is the Director of Social Work. She has been a social worker for over thirty years specializing in geriatric care her entire career. She has been working at Schervier Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for eight years. Franca has also worked extensively in palliative care and assisted in writing a book called Choices in Palliative Care, and has trained and received a certification in bioethics and medical humanities from New York University/Cardoza School of Law as well as a certification in Clinical Trauma (PTSD). Franca received her Master’s in Social Work from New York University. She continues to love working with her geriatric residents and strives to make their lives better.
Regina Trujillo was educated at Hunter College in Manhattan and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (a Harvard teaching hospital in Boston, MA). She has been a Registered Dietitian with 25 years experience providing nutritional care as a clinical nutrition manager or food service director in the long-term care and short-term rehabilitation setting. She has extensive experience providing medical nutrition therapy for renal dialysis, cardiac, burn, cancer, and neurosurgical patients. While Regina is a native New Yorker, she has lived in multiple states in the USA, including New Mexico. She loves working with adults and older adults who come from diverse cultural backgrounds, striving to support their nutritional needs and wellness.
Harry Guerra was born in Lima Peru. He came to the U.S. in 1981 with a background in architecture. He has been employed for over 20 years with Morrison Community Living and Compass Group USA in the healthcare division. Harry began his food service career in 1981 in various investment banking companies on Wall Street and continued his career with various New York City law firms, where he provided upscale service to corporate executives and lawyers. Over his many years in food service, Harry has organized and developed management revitalization teams, provided clients with superior leadership on a daily basis, as well as during critical transition phases. He has hired professional food service staff and has implemented budget reductions. In addition to his managerial background, Harry has an excellent culinary background (being instructed in the U.S. and Paris, France).
Nereida Moreno is known to her friends and co-workers as Connie. She has worked in the healthcare field in Recreation for over 20 years; 17 of them in a Nursing Home setting. Before going into the healthcare profession, she worked in the corporate world in finance. In her spare time, she enjoys being with family and friends, listening to music, crocheting or reading a good book. She takes great pleasure in seeing our residents fully engaged in activities and programs here at the facility. Her goal is to provide programs and activities that will bring a measure of joy to all residents.
Jo Ann Gonzalez, Director of Human Resources has 25 years’ experience as a Human Resources professional working in various organizations within the Healthcare sector that provide Mental Health and Disability services, SNF and Long-term care, Foster Care and Children services, Hospital, and Home Attendant Services. She holds a Bachelors’ of Science degree in Health Services Administration from Lehman College and a Masters’ of Science in Human Resources Management from the Milano School of Management, New School for Social Research.
Joseph Nesci is responsible for overseeing all the maintenance of both the building and the grounds. He has been working at Schervier for the past 2 years in the role as Director and has over 25 years of work experience in long-term care, working in New Jersey and New York City. Joe is married, currently lives in New Jersey and enjoys home projects and traveling in his spare time.
Eremias Isayas is our Director of Environmental Services which encompasses housekeeping and Laundry. Eremias has been in the healthcare environmental business for 18 years. Eremias has experience in both acute care and long-term care facilities. Eremias is certified to train all staff in OSHA, JACHO, DOH and CMS guidelines as well as concentrations in all types of floor care, Isolation/resident room cleaning, and customer service. “I love what I do and with my staff, we aim to provide a clean, safe and fun environment for our residents and families.”
